Meet the Man Behind the Madness

It all began with a passion for grilling and a love for serving people flavorful food.

James Meyer, TAMU Aggie Class of ’94

Should have been sooner but I had a little too much fun in my rugby days.

My passion for creating great food for others started when I helped my dad and uncles prepare meals at large family gatherings and church events. I was barely old enough to see into the pit, but they taught me so much for so long that I couldn’t help but learn their craft. Additionally, I picked up additional skills and techniques from my Momma Betty, who is a great kitchen cook.  She is still my go to when I need a recipe idea or just a good old heart-to-heart.

Later in life, I found myself hosting all kinds of parties, get-togethers, and holidays. Soon people were asking me to cook for their events. Later, my umpire buddies and I formed a competition BBQ team called Hey Blue BBQ, and we had some success.  However, our work lives didn’t allow for the time and effort it took to support the team.  My career took me all over the US and Canada selling high quality grills. I talked so much about cooking and grilling, sometimes for over 12 hours a day for years, that I dreamed of following my own advice--serving up flavorful food for people to enjoy. In early 2022, I got off the road and started doing what I love. Thus, Hey Blue Catering came to life. Contact us today to help with your events.

Hey Blue is more than just me. I have all kinds of help from family and friends, but none more important than the love of my life, Kathryn. She pitches in where needed and offers moral support.  So, we are a family business dedicated to ensure your events are hassle-free and enjoyable for all.

Thank you allowing us to earn your business,

James J. Meyer ‘94
